Ukraine: press driver killed, two Reuters journalists injured

The driver of a vehicle carrying two Reuters journalists to eastern Ukraine was killed on Friday, while two journalists sustained minor injuries, the international news agency said.

In a report, two Reuters journalists were slightly injured when they were shot while en route to Severodonetskthe administrative capital of the Luhansk region which, along with Donetsk, forms Donbass, a Reuters spokesman said.

They were traveling in a vehicle provided by the separatists [prorusses] and driven by the driver provided by the separatists. The driver was killed.

No other details were provided on the identity and state of health of the victims or on the circumstances of the tragedy.

A journalist was killed

Monday, Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, a journalist working for French television channel BFMTV who followed a humanitarian operation in Ukraine, was killed in the east during a bombing.

It is close to Severodonestk, the target of several Russian strikes and where, according to the Ukrainian presidency, the fighting continues downtown.

The head of French diplomacy, Catherine Colonna, said in a tweet that the 32-year-old reporter was killed by Russian bombing.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, at least eight journalists have died in the field using their profession, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

Journalists working every day in Ukraine to inform us the reality of the war must be protected from any attackssaid UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay on Monday.

He called on the fighting to respect a UN Security Council resolution on the protection of media professionals in conflict zones.
