On the same day as the start of the Summit of the Americas, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, confirmed this Monday that will not participate to the meeting because the host, the United States, did not invite all the governments of the region.

The president, who had evaluated the possibility of not attending, added that Mexico will be represented at the summit by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.

It is clear that the Mexican drop was fundamentally due to the exclusion of the United States from Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, who were not invited to the meeting.

A few hours before the start of the largest continental event, there are still several countries that have not confirmed their presence in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the White House is trying until the last moment to avoid a failure to convene and is confident that there will be “solid representation” of nations that can help promote an agenda of issues that is definitively, and after much controversy, disappeared in the background.
