When the Moon is in its full phase, this phenomenon occurs: our satellite seems brighter than normal and slightly larger. Hence it is known as “Superluna”.

Since ancient times, the moon it has been the center of attention of different cultures. Symbol of fertility, due to its nature and the effects it causes, it has always generated a huge interest and an indisputable mystique around him. And even more when he’s full.

So much so that every month was given a name according to the characteristics of the prevailing climate. This first summer or winter moon – in the northern and southern hemispheres, respectively – is known as strawberry moon.

This name derives from an ancient tradition of Algonquians, a group of Native Americans who took this Moon as a sign to pick wild strawberries. And that’s where its particular name comes from.

The Algonquian tribes, who gave our satellite this name, come from Canada, the United States and northern Mexico.

It is even believed that they were the early New Yorkers and what we know today as Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.
