Spanish police said on Tuesday they dispersed a gang that sexually exploited mostly Brazilian women, in an operation that resulted in the arrests of 14 people in the northwestern Iberian state of Pontevedra.
According to a statement released by the company, the network was based on the work of individuals based in Brazil who provided forged documents to get victims out of the country.
One of the members of the criminal group was responsible for selecting the victims and organizing their exit to Europe with fake student visas as well as evidence of irregular vaccination against covid-19.
The gang provided plane tickets and a cash value to justify their entry requirements into the European Union. Access to the European continent was mainly via Lisbon. After that the journey continued to Spain by land.
Investigations showed that all of the women were in an economically fragile situation. They inked loans of up to €2,000 (R$10,200) with the gang to cover their travel expenses.
According to the police, the value increased if he refused to have sex with one of the leaders of the criminal organization responsible for “testing” the victims. After that, the women started working in sexual exploitation organizations in Pontevedra.
In addition to 14 people detained in the operation, 3 women were released by the police.
