Colombian presidential candidate Rodolfo Hernández announced on Twitter this Thursday that he is canceling his public activities 10 days before the election against left-wing Gustavo Petro because of the “risk” to which his life remains.
“For my safety and to ensure the possibility of a democratic election on June 19, I have made the decision to cancel all my public appearances between elections from now on,” the millionaire candidate tweeted.
“I’m sure my life is at risk right now,” she wrote in another message.
Hernández, 77, condemned a campaign against him at a press conference.
“They plan to destroy us with perjury and false testimonies,” he said anonymously, and later said, “I have received warnings that they will try to kill me.”
It is not possible with bullets, but with a knife,” he said.
Convincing voters with his anti-corruption speech and social media posts and daily management reports, the former mayor of Bucaramanga traveled to Florida to win votes from the important local community.
In the south of the province, 100,000 Colombian citizens are eligible to vote, half of whom went to the polls in the first round.
