The bodies of seven men were found abandoned on a road in Mexico, in what is presumed to be part of the war supported by several criminal organizations. According to reports, the bodies showed signs of being brutally tortured and menacing inscriptions for a rival gang.

The discovery took place near a town in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí, in north-central Mexico, on the Valles-Rioverde highway, a dirt road in an area that seems practically forgotten, surrounded by dense and mountainous trees.

According to a statement released by the judicial authorities, the macabre discovery took place this Thursday afternoon at kilometer 34 of the aforementioned route, very close to the entrance of the El Jabalí community which belongs to the municipality of Aquismón, in the Huasteca Potosina.

Official information confirmed that the seven dead showed signs of violencemost were naked and apparently the bodies had messages written in felt-tip pen, in which a criminal group warns of their arrival and threatens their rivals.

“The first investigations indicate the possibility that they are not inhabitants of the area, and therefore communication will be maintained in this regard with neighboring bodies”, reads the prosecutor who investigates the case in a note.

Investigators even presume that the victims “died elsewhere and were taken to the place where they were found”. For this reason, the staff of the Investigative Police and Expert Services contacted the authorities of Hidalgo and Querétaro, two neighboring states.

It has been preliminarily determined that the seven bodies are adults, but the public ministry is working to determine their identity and the circumstances of their death.

The state of San Luis Potosí, home to some industrial parks in which large automobile companies such as General Motors and BMW operate, is not usually the scene of the activity of violent Mexican drug cartels.

However, its territory borders on districts such as Tamaulipas and Veracruz, both of which have been hit hard by the action of mafias such as the Northeast Cartel or Jalisco Nueva Generación.

Mexico has recorded more than 340,000 murders and tens of thousands of disappearances, most attributed to criminal organizations, since the launch in December 2006 of a controversial military drug offensive.
