The Dutch secret service announced on Thursday that it had blocked in April a Russian spy from accessing the International Criminal Court (ICC), based in The Hague, in the Netherlands, and was investigating alleged crimes in war in Ukraine.
The AIVD (Dutch secret service) blocked a Russian intelligence agent from accessing the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a trainee, the agency said in a statement, specifying it was an individual working for the Russian military intelligence GRU .
AIVD identified as Sergey Vladimirovich Cherkasov, 36, the man was using a Brazilian cover identity to travel from Brazil to the Netherlands, the Dutch secret service said.
The AIVD considered it a threat to national security and the service informed the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service in an official report.they added.
For these reasons, the intelligence officer was denied entry to the Netherlands in April and the back to Brazil on the first flightresumed the AIVD, which specified the ICC has been informed of the matter.
The ICC is investigating alleged war crimes committed in Ukraine since Russia’s aggression began on February 24.
Russia or Ukraine are not members of ICC
but Kyiv accepted the court’s jurisdiction and cooperated with the prosecutor’s office in its investigation into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity committed on its territory.Russia should cooperate in the investigation of ICC
