Members of the Russian delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) were denied visas to attend a session in the UK next month.
Members of the Russian delegation have not been granted British visas and will not be able to travel to the OSCE’s annual parliamentary assembly in Birmingham in July, a senior Russian lawmaker said on Wednesday.
The British embassy in Moscow said Russia’s OSCE delegation was banned from entering the UK due to sanctions imposed by London in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“All members of the Russian delegation are subject to sanctions in the United Kingdom for their role in destabilizing Ukraine and undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence,” the embassy said in a statement published on messaging app Telegram on Wednesday. Said.
“These sanctions prohibit them, among other things, from traveling to the UK.”
The OSCE is a Cold War-era multinational organization designed to prevent and monitor conflicts in Europe. The annual meeting of the House of Parliament will be held from 2 to 6 July in Birmingham, England.
The UK Home Office has previously said it prioritizes visa applications from Ukrainians and that “there are no restrictions or limitations for Russian citizens to work in the UK on long-term work visas”.
