Olexandre Kamishin, director of Ukrainian railways, announced that trains evacuating people from eastern Ukraine were blocked on Thursday as Russia bombed the only railway line still under Ukrainian control.
In Telegram, this official wrote, “The enemy air bombardment of the railway near Barbenkovo \u200b\u200bthe Donetsk line. This is the only train exit route from Ukrainian-controlled cities such as Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Liman.”
Today, this line is “a survival route for tens of thousands of our compatriots”.
According to him, three trains were blocked in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
We are waiting for the attacks to end so that the situation becomes clear. “Passengers of the blocked trains were transferred to the stations until the situation became clear,” he said.
Ukrainian officials urged the population of the eastern regions under their control to withdraw as soon as possible, as they predicted a major offensive by Russian forces.
Luhansk governor Sergiy Gaiday warned Thursday that this is “the last chance” as the Russians have “closed all escape routes”.
