Olexandre Kamishin, director of Ukrainian railways, announced that trains evacuating people from eastern Ukraine were blocked on Thursday as Russia bombed the only railway line still under Ukrainian control.

Today, this line is “a survival route for tens of thousands of our compatriots”.

According to him, three trains were blocked in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

Ukrainian officials urged the population of the eastern regions under their control to withdraw as soon as possible, as they predicted a major offensive by Russian forces.

Luhansk governor Sergiy Gaiday warned Thursday that this is “the last chance” as the Russians have “closed all escape routes”.
