Shall we talk about the coup, the shepherds and the hunger of millions of Brazilians?
It’s no secret that Jair Bolsonaro is threatening democracy. Some say it aims to thwart elections; others would use the two months between eventual defeat and the inauguration of an elected official to foment turmoil in the manner of Donald Trump, to provoke an intervention by the Armed Forces.
“You think this attempt is impossible, Reinaldo?” I thought so too. I don’t think anymore. Trying is not synonymous with success. And however long the disorder lasts, the cost will be enormous for the country. Even if it was seen as a guarantee of order, law and order against elections or poll results, it would have to rely on the connivance of the Armed Forces.
It is undeniable that Bolsonaro spread the blow around him. TSE is surrounded by the Ministry of Defense. Was the barracks ready to turn the situation around? Even the Minister of Justice Anderson Torres, who was with Bolsonaro when Milton called Ribeiro “with his feelings”, considered it appropriate to send a somewhat rude letter to the electoral court.
NEW THREATS, LIE AND ROSSESS
A conversation between Jair Bolsonaro and his allies was made public last night. He threatened again:
“At some point, there will be a tragedy that we don’t want. We don’t give a message, a warning, everybody knows what’s going on.”
What is “happening”? A tragedy”? Against whom? He repeated the lie that he had proof that he had won the 2018 election in the first round. As much as they revealed about the alleged fraud in the 2014 election, he had nothing and is still being investigated in an investigation.
On Wednesday, Bolsonaro attended a dinner at the official residence of the Chamber Presidency, hosted by Arthur Lira (PP-AL), his main ally in Congress. The meeting marked two decades for Gilmar Mendes, minister at the STF. Among the nearly 40 guests are Senate president Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG); other court ministers (Alexandre de Moraes, Ricardo Lewandowski and André Mendonça) and even opposition MPs: MP Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP) – said to be the author of the idea – Odair Cunha (PT-MG) and leader Reginaldo Lopes from PT in the Chamber.
For a time Bolsonaro and Moraes had a short conversation behind closed doors in an adjoining room. The truth has been read as a sign of some relaxation and possible institutional dialogue. Bolsonarism fanatics, believe me, expressed their dissatisfaction with this conversation on social media. They didn’t want their leader at that meeting. They saw this as a sign of weakness. In their hallucinations, “Myth” always destroys dissenters, scatters rudeness, and threatens democracy. And that’s really what Bolsonaro likes to do.
Okay then. During the meeting with the Allies, Bolsonaro referred to the meeting with Moraes in these terms:
“A conversation of about five minutes. I said to him, ‘We’ll talk with more time next week. And he can be anywhere.’ I’m not going to explain. I’ve been quieter, I’ve listened to his speech. And I intend to talk to him, yes, I do, and I intend to see what happens, because deep down I want to have a dialogue and respect the Constitution”.
Respect for the Constitution that threatens the country with “tragedy”?
How does the head of a branch meet with a Supreme Court minister and announce to his audience that the addressee has said “things that are not true”? A few days ago, he stated that he would make a deal with Moraes in September of last year and that he would not do his part. I asked who would dare to collude with him. The summary of his meeting with the minister is proof of this impossibility.
Shepherd
Bolsonaro also spoke about the preventive detention of Milton Ribeiro, which was later revoked:
“The Public Department was against Milton’s arrest. There was not the slightest sign of corruption on his part, and I think he was wrongfully arrested”.
And still:
“Then you’ll see the process – they passed me, I didn’t see it -, the Federal Ministry of Public Affairs in Brasília was against arrest. Usually the judge follows it from there.
Lie again! The MPF saw no reason for precautionary detention – I explained the issue at length – but acknowledged the existence of evidence that crimes had been committed contrary to what Bolsonaro had said, spoke of a criminal organization and “with possible support” by Ribeiro. I’m typing:
“In fact, the evidence collected and already documented points to the practice of active corruption, influence trading, abuse of power and administrative defense, all in the context of a Criminal Organization. It was processed within the scope of the Ministry of Education with the support of “.
It should be noted that the MPF advocates the application of precautionary measures outside of prison. Of course, none of this was said or reminded of Bolsonaro. He talked about what happened to him.
After Ribeiro and others were released from prison, the former minister’s conversations went public, stating that Bolsonaro had warned him he could be the target of a search warrant. According to the former minister, the president had a “hunch”. There are other indications that there may be a leak from the operation.
PARTICIPATE IN POINTS
Now let’s put Milton Ribeiro, lobbying pastors and other ongoing frauds – the biggest secret budget – onto the coup stage.
Although it was nonsense and the corrupt notables of the Republic supported the 1964 coup—and it didn’t take long for some to break their faces—one of the reasons cited for ending the coup was the fight against corruption. It was the strongest justification after the struggle against destruction and communism. It was an equally crooked excuse, but backed the Cold War coup d’etats.
Tell me: the Brazilian military, in the name of public morality, would a Bolsonaro dare to pursue his own coup? And what would they do next? Would you honor the pastors Gilmar Santos and Arílton Moura? No country is an island, this is true for those who are. How would the barracks be described in front of the world? War against communism? Ah, no more gluing. Leftist Gustavo Petro has just won elections in Colombia, the country with the continent’s largest number of US military personnel, and no one dared to speak of disrespect for the will of the people.
The MEC scandal is just one piece of evidence of an administration that would have been catastrophic if not for a coup. More than 33 million people go hungry in Brazil. Food insecurity affects almost 60% of the population, 58.7% to be exact. We’re talking about 125 million people. Figures are from the Penssan network, which brings together researchers from universities and institutions in Brazil. In the country, which is the second largest food exporter in the world, 6 out of 10 Brazilians do not have enough food to meet their daily needs.
While still an MP, Jair Bolsonaro regretted that the military coup did not kill at least “about 30,000” people.
How many corpses do you have in mind? Isn’t more than 670 thousand covid enough?
Blow for what? Against whom?
Who is threatening the future of Brazilians and Brazil today?
The thinking and thinking army must pray daily for Bolsonaro’s defeat. Thus, they can begin to return to the role that the Constitution has reserved for them. The charter gives them the task of defending Brazil and Brazilians in certain and very serious situations.
Killing the hungry is not among their duties. And then they would still have to honor Milton Ribeiro, Gilmar Santos and Arilton Moura. In the name of God, country and family.
