wars are the kingdom of fog and lies. Little is seen, little is understood and little is known. The contenders, from time immemorial, have been counting the war trying to put themselves in a better situation than they are. Enemy casualties increase, their own decreases and try to win the information battle. In that aspect Ukraine is one step ahead of Russia.

the Russian government barely gives figures of what is happening in their battles in Ukraine. He doesn’t know how many soldiers or material he loses and doesn’t even recognize him is using young people who perform compulsory military service and not just professional soldiers, as President Vladimir Putin promised.

Moscow preferred in this war relax. He only posted, on March 25, that she had lost 1,351 soldiersan unlikely figure given the battles that took place during the first month of the war.

The information war

Ukraine won the information war against Russia. the Ukrainians they publish a war report daily which includes how many Russian soldiers lost their lives that day and how much military material left by the Russian army.

What Ukraine does not do is publish the number of its victims, but in May, President Volodimir Zelenski said there were about a hundred victims a day. If true, Ukraine in almost four months of war it would have buried about 12,000 soldiers.

In the article published Wednesday, Ukraine claims it has already killed 35,450 Russian soldiers and destroyed a long list of military equipment that includes 1,572 tanks, 3,720 light armored vehicles, 781 pieces of artillery, 246 self-propelled missile launchers, 103 pieces of self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, 217 fighter aircraft, 185 helicopters, 14 ships of different sizes, 640 drones, 2,598 fuel vehicles and 142 cruise missiles.

Figures that European diplomatic sources see as overly optimistic.

adapt to reality

European diplomats say they have already asked Kiev to do so parts of the war that fit reality as closely as possible.

They understand that in such a context the exact numbers they are impossible to reach but they hope that the hype will be contained. Senior Ukrainian officials say so privately transmit reliable information on the situation on the ground, but fear that the reports made public are starting to make citizens of European countries believe that Ukraine is lying.

They ensure it long-term credibility is essential both to continue winning the information war, and for Europeans to continue sending weapons.

Even if they understand that Kiev is inflating the numbers keep the morale of your troops. These same sources assure that the more than 35,000 Russian soldiers who died, according to Kiev, would actually be among 15,000 and 20,000a parenthesis that would leave the reality of the numbers in the midst of those asserted by Ukraine.

The same sources believe that the Ukrainian president could inflate the Russian casualty figures to show it to Western governments can withstand the Russian army and who continue to send him weapons.
