Two Britons and a Moroccan, who fought in the Ukrainian army and were sentenced to death by pro-Russian separatists, brought the sentence to the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic Supreme Court on Monday.

In June, Brits Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner and Moroccan Brahim Saadun were accused of mercenary service in Ukraine and sentenced to death by separatist authorities in Donetsk, a self-proclaimed republic in the war-torn east.

Aslin filed an appeal on Monday, a spokesperson for the Supreme Court told Russian news agencies.

In the statement made by the court, it was stated that Saadun did the same thing on July 1, while Pinner appealed to the same court in June, according to his lawyer.

The United Kingdom has expressed outrage at the condemnation of its citizens, describing the decision as a “false trial without legitimacy”.
