Australian authorities announced that thousands of people were forced or prepared to flee their homes in the Sydney area after rivers overflow caused by the rains.

Emergency services have ordered 50,000 people to leave their homes and 28,000 to prepare to take action in the face of flooding in the state of New South Wales.

Heavy rains and flooding caused power outages in nearly 19,000 homes.
