Australian authorities announced that thousands of people were forced or prepared to flee their homes in the Sydney area after rivers overflow caused by the rains.

Emergency services have ordered 50,000 people to leave their homes and 28,000 to prepare to take action in the face of flooding in the state of New South Wales.

Emergency teams announced that 142 people were rescued in the last 24 hours in the Sydney area.

Heavy rains and flooding caused power outages in nearly 19,000 homes.

Australia is one of the countries most affected by the consequences of climate change and increasingly suffers from drought, devastating bushfires and other natural disasters such as bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef.
