Police said on Wednesday that the 21-year-old man accused of shooting during a July 4 parade in suburban Chicago on Monday was considering launching a second attack in Madison, Wisconsin.
Christopher Covelli of the Highland Park Police, Robert Crimo, told investigators that he drove to Madison, where he “sees more celebration” and is “seriously considering using the gun in the vehicle to launch another attack.”
He added that unlike the first attack, which had been prepared for weeks, the second attack was not planned.
On Monday (4), the young man opened fire on the crowd from the roof of a store as the parade started. Seven people were killed and thirty injured.
After being arrested near Chicago on Wednesday night, Crimo was questioned by Highland Park Police and gave “voluntary testimony to investigators who admitted to what he did” during a video conference before a judge, Assistant District Attorney Ben Dillon said.
Judge Theodore Potkonjak refused bail. The suspect, who has long hair and tattoos on his neck and face, remained indifferent during his statement.
Prosecutor Eric Rinehart declined to speculate as to why at a press conference.
If found guilty, Robert Crimo, who has been charged with seven murders, will face life in prison without the possibility of parole. He will appear before another Waukegan Court judge on July 28.
