A homemade bombshell was dropped on Lula’s stage in Rio de Janeiro this Thursday (7). Nobody was injured. Last month, a drone attacked a PT movement in Uberlândia (MG) and sprayed poison on those present. Political violence is escalating with the election process, not because of a lack of warning. And if nothing is done, we will begin the deaths.

President Jair Bolsonaro, who came under a heinous attack in September 2018, should be the first to condemn such acts and ask his militancy not to use violence in the electoral process. Unfortunately, it works in the opposite direction, fueling violence.

Basically, the sum total of his speeches in recent years has led his followers to say that 1) Electoral Justice and a conspiracy of the left to rigged elections; 2) if he is not declared victorious, the people must take up arms to keep him in power; 3) TSE and STF represent evil and must be fought.

Supporters such as Bolsonaro and politicians, fundamentalists and communicators say they do not encourage violence against other people. It may not be their hands that drop the bomb or hold the gun, but it is the overlapping of their conversations over time that distorts the worldview of ordinary people and makes shooting, stabbing, and beating commonplace.

Its actions and rules are gradually redefining what is morally acceptable, a vision that will then be consumed and implemented by its followers. They believe they are doing the right thing by attacking and killing in an almost civilized mission. Or divine.

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, coordinator of his father’s re-election campaign, warned in an interview with the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo on June 30 that they would have no control over the hypothetical uprising of followers against the election result.

He argued that Donald Trump did not force his followers to invade Congress (though he actually did) and that Bolsonaro would not issue an “order” on the matter. And it soon cast more doubt on the selection process.

The Bolsonarista campaign on social media says that Lula cannot go out. However, when there are public actions in the presence of the PT leader, Bolsonarists carry out attacks. And soon, the networks write that this is proof that Lula is not very popular with the public. That is, they create the “prophecy” and insist on fulfilling it to prove their claim.

If the president loses the elections, with or without a coup attempt, October is a tragedy, declared by the escalation of violence.

The fear is that alongside attacks on the PT candidate himself and militancy, there will be other cases, such as Moa do Katendê, who voted for Fernando Haddad and was killed in the first round of 2018. Discussion about politics in Salvador.

To avoid this, political leaders need to heal the toxic environment. And Bolsonaro must stop feeding them. Which definitely shouldn’t be.

The president wants and needs this violence to engage his followers—the rampant violence that attacked the judge’s car with feces and eggs during the Federal Police investigation, which ordered the arrest of former minister Milton Ribeiro. Education by Portfolio Bolsonaro.

Large-scale intolerance has been sown by President Jair Bolsonaro, even as institutions play their part by harshly punishing any case of political violence and making those concerned public. And he will harvest from here until October.
