Nail 550 American women filed a lawsuit against the shared transport company Uber for having been the victim of sexual violence by drivers when the latter found inside the vehicles contract through the platform.
As reported in a note from the law firm ‘Slater Slater Schulman, LLP’, the lawsuit filed with the San Francisco courthouse (California, USA), where Uber is based.
“The passengers were kidnapped, attacked, beaten, raped, chased, harassed and attacked by Uber drivers they were assigned to through the application, “explained the lawyers.

The lawsuit claims that the San Francisco company was aware that some of its drivers were committing sexual assaults and rapes of female passengers since 2014, But despite this, the “sexual predators” who drive for Uber have continued to attack female passengers to this day, as the company prioritized “economic growth over the safety of its passengers”.
The shared transport company has been facing courts for years for the illegal behavior of its drivers, especially for attacks on women.
In the latest edition of its safety report, released in early June, Uber claimed to have received 3,824 reports of serious sexual assaults in the years 2019 and 2020, ranging from non-consensual kissing to rape. This figure is 38% lower than that recorded between 2017 and 2018.
Uber under control for controversial practices
On Monday it was learned that former Uber lobbyist Mark MacGann is behind the leak of documents revealing how the Uber platform he broke the law and resorted to brutal practices and pressure groups to prevail despite the resistance of several countries.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) explained in a statement that the person who was Uber’s main lobbyist in Europe 18.69 gigabytes of emails were leakedsms and internal documents from the platform to the British newspaper Guardian.
These documents were shared by the newspaper with ICIJ and its network of collaborators, to which the international media belong.
The leaked documents show how company officials tried to do it influence politicians for favors; they negotiated investment contracts with Russian oligarchs, now sanctioned; and took advantage of the violence against Uber drivers to get regulation in favor of the company.
