At least three people were killed and three others were injured Sunday when an individual opened fire at a shopping mall in the US state of Indiana, authorities said.
“We witnessed a mass shooting tonight at Greenwood Park Mall,” Greenwood, Indiana, Mayor Mark Myers said in a statement.
Mark Myers said the shooter was shot by “an armed individual.” Greenwood police issued a message asking witnesses to the shooting to contact them with information.

The attack is the latest in a wave of gun violence sweeping the United States, where about 40,000 deaths a year are caused by firearms, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
It comes just days after a gunman opened fire during a Fourth of July parade in an affluent Chicago suburb, killing seven people and wounding at least 30.
The shooting followed two massacres in May in which 10 black people were shot to death at an upstate New York supermarket, and 19 children and two teachers killed at an elementary school in Texas.
The recent increase in violence has reignited the controversial debate on the regulation of weapons. A US House of Representatives committee will vote this week for the first time in nearly 20 years on a bill banning assault weapons.
