In the United States there are those who cannot believe the new prices of some products because of the inflation. The value of artisan bread is impressive.

A Bloomberg report collected by the New York Post showed that there are companies in the country that sell artisan bread $ 10 a kilogram bar.

Marco CohenColumbia University’s director of retail studies, assures that these prices “have not been seen before” and that for buyers this is “like a punch in the nose”.

The cost of white bread increased by 10.1% last month compared to the same month in 2021, reaching the highest level recorded since Bureau of Labor Statistics ($ 1.69 per pound, which is almost half a kilo).

According to the Post, The Russian invasion of Ukraine was the key to raising bread, as it “disrupted” world grain exports. In the last year, the media point out, the prices of “key elements” such as flour, eggs and milk have risen in the United States.

It is worth clarifying that the shop Flat and Pointone of the companies with which the Post illustrates the increase in the price of artisan bread, is not characterized by the sale of cheap products, but by betting on quality natural products.

It was created by the Michelin-starred chef brian bruniwho, according to the brand’s website, wanted to combine his passion for open fire cooking with local products and alpine inspiration.

“Chef Brian’s dishes have their roots in the regional cuisine of the Alps, with a menu centered around homemade cured meats, pasta, seasonal vegetables and smoked meats. He loves making almost everything at home, which extends to the bakery branch of our business, where he makes fresh seasonal sourdough bread, bagels and pastries.

Other businesses, like Whole Foods or Fairway Market, offer high prices, but not as high as Bruns. In the first, the prices of bread range between 3.49 and 6 dollars, while in the second there are products for 10.19 dollars and a classic brioche for 7.99.

A similar situation in Peru

Bread excursions to Peru are giving Peruvians a feeling similar to that of Americans. This became clear after an investigation carried out by the CPI which scored a historic fall in July.

The Peruvian study company reported that Peruvians have reduced bread consumption by 21% since the product started costing as little as 40 cents per unit.

The CPI indicated that of 68% of Peruvians who bought between 6 and 12 loaves a day, only 47.2% now consume this same amount.
