Israel and Morocco cemented their military alliance during talks in Rabat on Tuesday between Israeli army chief Aviv Kochavi and senior Moroccan officials, as part of growing cooperation between the two states.
Arriving in Morocco on Monday, General Kochavi was received by Abdellatif Loudiyi, delegate minister in charge of Defense, on the occasion of the first official visit of a chief of the Israeli General Staff to the kingdom of Cherifian, the Israeli army said in a statement on Tuesday. . He also met with his counterpart, General Belkheir Al-Farouq, and military intelligence chief Brahim Hassani.
An agreement signed in 2021
During the discussions, the Moroccan side expressed “(its) interest in jointly establishing industrial defense projects in Morocco,” the FAR general staff said in a separate press release on Tuesday.
In the military aspect, “this visit made it possible to examine the opportunities to further develop the lines of cooperation mainly related to training, technology transfer, as well as the exchange of experiences and knowledge”, welcomed the Moroccan General Staff.
This partnership is based on a framework agreement signed in November 2021 in Rabat by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz. The agreement provides, in particular, for cooperation between intelligence services, the development of industrial links, the purchase of weapons and joint training.
Sealed with the blessing of Washington, this strategic and military alliance arouses mistrust in Algeria, Morocco’s regional rival and supporter of the Palestinian cause.
