They seized a suspected Fabergé egg from a yacht belonging to a Russian oligarch, US authorities said. The prosecutor in the case confirmed that, if it were a real piece, it would be worth millions and would be one of the few left in the world.
There were only 69 eggs of Carlo Fabergé in history. The Russian house created these jewelry masterpieces for the tsars and some members of the local nobility from 1885 to 1917.
These egg-like jewels are made from the combination of various metals such as gold, platinum, silver, copper, nickel, palladium and steel, as well as precious stones such as sapphires, rubies and emeralds.

Lisa Monaco the deputy attorney general dealing with the case reported that the jewel was inside the yacht “Amadea”, previously owned by the Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.
the yacht, worth $ 325 million, arrived in the United States from Fiji after a long journey across the Pacific. The US police were able to inspect it after conducting a lengthy judicial battle over ownership of the ship.
Kerimov had been sanctioned by the United States Government in 2018. According to officials from that country, the businessman is an alleged money launderer linked to conflicts over the annexation of Crimea to Russia. Also, according to Forbes, he is a majority investor in Russia’s largest gold producer.

Fabergé eggs in the cinema
In the history of cinema, Fabergé eggs have fascinated several directors and have been the engine of different plots.
In the 2018 comedy Game Night, for example, a Fabergé egg is the central object of the conflict in the final stage of the story. He pits the protagonists against members of the mafia and stars in one of the film’s most remembered scenes in which the characters pass on to each other.
