Commenting on the new restrictions imposed on Moscow by the bloc, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that no sanctions imposed on countries around the world have so far led to a change in their stance, and neither has the European Union’s sanctions against Russia. .

“The European Union (EU) is trying with enviable persistence to produce new sanctions, but in our view, even the harshest sanctions have not led the affected countries anywhere in the world to change their position in any way. in our case,” said Peskov.

EU countries agreed on Thursday to ban gold imports from Russia and freeze the assets of Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, in a new round of sanctions, the seventh, over Russia’s military action against Ukraine.

The agreement reached at the meeting of EU ambassadors has not yet been officially ratified. It adds 50 people, including “politicians, military leaders, oligarchs and propagandists,” to the list of people banned from entering the territory of the bloc whose assets will also be frozen.

The list exceeds 1,000 people, including Lavrov, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Chelsea president Roman Abramovich.

According to the Kremlin, the EU prefers to continue to impose mandatory sanctions on its population, which is “harming its own interests” and “beginning to suffer from the consequences” of the restrictions.
