The police have arrested a sexagenaire who was 56 years old, in a village sur l’île grecque de Crète, dans le sud du pays, des médias et ONG déplorant un “nouveau féminicide” in the country.
The tragedy occurred at the home of the Greek couple in the village of Ano Malaki, located in the Rethymno prefecture of Crete during a marital dispute, according to initial information from the police.
The couple’s son tipped off the police as the killer turned himself in to authorities upon confessing his crime, the Greek news agency (Ana) reported.
A “long list of femicides” in the country
The media and feminist NGOs have denounced “this new femicide, which adds to the long list of femicides” in recent years, experts denouncing the macho culture of Greek society.
Last November, the assembly of presidents of the bars warned about the rebound in gender violence after thirteen femicides registered in the country between January and November 2021.
