An 80-year-old businessman in California, USA, shot a robber who was breaking into his shop with an AR-15 rifle. “Was it him or me”said the merchant, who had a rifle.
Craig Copé, 80, said he feared for his life when four assailants entered the Norco liquor market in Norco early Sunday morning. He was behind the counter when one of the robbers broke in with a shotgun and yelled at him to stand still.
He told the New York Post he knew something was wrong when he saw a dark BMW SUV pull up at the store late at night. And then I saw them get out of the car with masks and guns. So, I figured what would happen. I just knew they were armed and masked and were about to enter, so I was ready for them. “
Craig Cope took his rifle and shot the offender in the arm.
Surveillance footage from inside the store shows Cope firing the rifle seconds after the offender announced the robbery, hitting the robber in the arm. Cope suffered a heart attack and was rushed to hospital after the shooting, and is now recovering at his Riverside home.
The Riverside County Sheriff said that around 2:47 am, deputies from Norco Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at a company located on block 800 of 6th Street. The investigation was corroborated by surveillance videos and revealed that four armed suspects arrived at the activity in a dark-colored vehicle.
Local police approved that the trader shot the criminal. “In this case, a member of our community legally armed prevented a violent crime and ensured their safety, as he faces more armed suspects. This investigation is active and ongoing and no further information is released at this time, ”the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said.
The thief was carrying an AR-15 rifle.
The suspects were later found in a hospital in the Southern California region. One of them had a gunshot wound consistent with a rifle explosion. They were immediately taken into police custody in the hospital parking lot and registered at the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery and conspiracy. They are withheld in lieu of a $ 500,000 bail.
