SÃO PAULO, AUGUST 5 (ANSA) – Pope Francis this Friday (5) authorized the promulgation of a decree recognizing the heroic virtues of Brazilian priest Vítor Coelho de Almeida.
This procedure proves the necessary living requirements for the formal initiation of the forging and canonization processes. Father Vítor, who until then was considered a “servant of God”, becomes “respectable”.
Born in Sacramento (MG) on September 22, 1899, he was a process priest of the Congregation of the Most Holy of Saviors and served pastoral services at Aparecida Shrine (SP).
However, Father Vítor would be noted above all for his role in Rádio Aparecida, of which he had been a part since its foundation in 1951 and became its main voice.
In 1969, he gave a speech commenting on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which led to the military dictatorship’s “subversive” suspension of radio broadcasts. Father Vítor would die in Guaratinguetá (SP) on July 21, 1987.
