The FBI’s search of Donald Trump’s mansion split opinions: for some it was the first step towards a lawsuit, and for others, it was a “political persecution” amid the great polarization that the former president was considering running for a new term.

A former resident of the White House has never had more trouble with the law.

Was the federal police attack motivated by material Donald Trump received as he left the White House in January 2021? Or would there be an investigation into his alleged responsibility in the Capitol invasion? Could there be suspicions of fraud burdening the Trump Organization in New York?

AFP contacted the FBI, which declined to comment.

Donald Trump denies any of these accusations and sees himself as the target of a witch hunt.

In a statement, he condemned the attack on his Florida mansion, where he is currently absent. “These are dark times in the country,” he said. “This unannounced attack was neither necessary nor appropriate,” he denounced.

“No one is above the law, not even a former president of the United States,” Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told NBC on Tuesday. Like most Democrats, Pelosi has been demanding businessman accountability for years.

The escalation in the judiciary seems to have brought the Republican Party close enough around Trump to elevate him to the position of a martyr.

Trump supporters gathered outside the luxury home to express their anger. Fans defended “divorce” in the country where there are such deep divisions on social media.

Springboard to 2024?

House Conservative leader Kevin McCarthy denounced “insufferable instrumentation for political purposes” by the Justice Department and promised an investigation into his operation when Republicans returned to power.

Trump has even been defended by former right-hand man Mike Pence, a potential rival in the Republican primary, whose relationship with the Capitol Hill chapter has been shaken.

“I share the deep concern of millions of Americans about the unprecedented incident that occurred at President Trump’s private residence.”

Fox News, the conservatives’ favorite television channel, also had no regrets. “Biden’s FBI breached the home of one of his potential competitors in the 2024 election,” one headline said.

Trump has already raised more than $100 million (an unprecedented amount for a former president) and can announce his candidacy for a new term at any time. For now, take the opportunity to request more resources from your supporters.

He urged the team to “come forward all red-blooded American patriots” and donate to the fight against what they called the “ETERNAL witchhunter”.
