Former Paraguayan president Fernando Lugo has had a stroke and is in a medically induced coma

Former President and Senator of Paraguay Fernando Lugo (2008-2012) underwent a stroke, whereby you remain in an induced coma in a clinic in Asunción, he informed the legislator Jorge Querey, of the left coalition to which the political leader belongs.

“He was admitted here with a diagnosis of a Ischemic strokeQuerey, who is also Lugo’s family doctor, told reporters.

Lugo, 71, was transferred in emergency from his office in the Senate to the San Roque Sanatorium, near the historic center of the Paraguayan capital, after suffering a failure.

Querey, of the alliance of left-wing parties Frente Guasu, explained that ongoing studies indicate that the former president, who went to Bogotá in recent days to participate in the investiture ceremonies of the new president of Colombia, the left-wing Gustavo Petro, “made a seizure or thing people commonly known as a seizure“.

The incident, he said, occurred after the presentation of the former president “very mild symptoms” during his trip to Colombian territory.

The left-wing leader, undergoing a CT scan, has a “relatively small” lesion, added his doctor, who admitted that he will undergo other more complex studies to determine the extent of his case.

“He is currently in a medically induced coma and is linked to mechanical ventilation,” added Querey, who estimated him it will remain so between 12 and 24 hours to “properly oxygenate” your brain.

The legislator and doctor added that Lugo is a “patient with long-standing care” he receives permanent drugs for clotting and circulation.

The former president was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma cancer in August 2010, for which he received treatment in Brazil and recovered in 2012.

Lugo is a former Catholic bishop who, with his electoral victory in 2008, put an end to 61 years of hegemony of the Colorado Party in Paraguay.
