Local officials said a Japanese police officer was drunk, sleeping on the street, and lost documents from an investigation that included data on nearly 400 people, including a criminal suspect.
A police source told AFP that the 49-year-old agent from the Hyogo district (west of the country) lost a file containing documents between Friday night and Saturday morning.
The documents also included the names and addresses of people involved in criminal investigations, according to the source, who did not provide further details.
Japanese media reported that the police went out for drinks with their colleagues and fell asleep when he returned home with the documents.
When he woke up at the train station, he could no longer find the folder with the documents.
