A French tourist died on Tuesday from her injuries after being bitten by stray dogs at a seaside resort in Western Sahara, southern Morocco, local authorities said on Wednesday.
The 44-year-old victim, whose identity has not been revealed, was attacked by a pack of stray dogs when he was walking away from his hotel in the town of El Argoub, the same sources have specified.
An open investigation
According to the first elements, the French citizen would have arrived on Tuesday at El Argoub, a resort known for the practice of kitesurfing, on the edge of the Atlantic, located 70 km from Dakhla, capital of the province of Oued Eddahab, a region of Western Sahara under control Moroccan.
The gendarmerie has opened an investigation, under the supervision of the prosecution, to elucidate the circumstances of this incident, added the local authorities.
The proliferation of stray dogs is a real scourge in the Maghreb. The Moroccan state signed an agreement in 2019 with partners “to sterilize, vaccinate and identify stray dogs.”
