Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) accused Ukraine of being behind the murder of journalist and political analyst Darya Dugina, who was the daughter of prominent far-right philosopher Alexander Dugin and was killed in an explosion last Saturday (20).
On Monday, the FSB said the attack was planned by the Kyiv secret services and carried out by a Ukrainian, identified as 43-year-old Natalia Pavlovna Vovk.
The suspect reportedly arrived in Russia on July 23 with his 12-year-old daughter, Sofia Mihaylovna Shaban, and left the country in Pskov province, beyond the Estonian border.
“The Federal Security Service has revealed that the Russian journalist Darya Dugina was killed as a result of a series of urgent measures,” the FSB statement quoted by state news agency Tass said.
“The crime was prepared and committed by the Ukrainian special services,” adds the Russian intelligence department. Also, according to the FSB, Vovk and Shaban were at the same festival, which Dugina and her father attended as guests of honor on Saturday.
The political analyst fell victim to the bomb placed on the car he was driving – a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Dugin’s name – and was triggered remotely. The crime took place while Dugina was returning from the festival, passing through the village of Velyki Vyazomi on the outskirts of Moscow.
The journalist and his father were supposed to travel in the same car, but at the last moment Dugin would decide to go in a separate car. According to the FSB, Vovk even rented an apartment in Moscow in the same building where Dugina lived, to monitor her steps.
Last Sunday (21), Mikhailo Podolyak, chief adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, said Ukraine had “nothing to do” with the attack. “Unlike Russia, we are not a criminal state,” he said.
Dugin is known for his anti-Western and far-right views, and in recent years has been described by the European and American press as one of the inspirations of Putin’s ultranationalist foreign policy, although the Russian media has viewed him as “foreign”. figure.
Meanwhile, Dugina was a prominent political analyst and supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which led to sanctions against him by the United States and the United Kingdom.
