EU works on training mission of Ukrainian army against Russia

The Union’s head of diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said the European Union (EU) will discuss the creation of a major program on “training and aiding the organization” of the Ukrainian army in nearby countries.

To fight the Russian invasion, Borrell said, “an effort must be made not only to send supplies, but also to help train and organize the army.”

European defense ministers will discuss the proposal in Prague next week.

“I hope they approve. This will be an important mission, I believe we are facing full-scale war,” Borrell said, before insisting that “any mission should be dependent on conflict.”

“This is not a small war,” he said, before recalling that “10 million Ukrainians have left the country.”

On August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, Russia’s invasion of the former Soviet republic is a war that will complete six months and has already killed thousands.
