The United States added on Sunday that Russia does not want to recognize the serious radiological hazard at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, adding that this is why Moscow has delayed the final version of the nuclear nonproliferation treaty.
“Only the Russian Federation decided to block consensus on the final document at the end of the Tenth Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Russia did this to block language acknowledging the serious radiological hazard at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.” Ministry said in a statement.
The statement came after Russia brokered an agreement on Friday on the final draft of the revised UN treaty, considered the cornerstone of nuclear disarmament, in the face of criticism of Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
