air France suspended two pilots who punched in the cockpit of an airplane Geneva to Paris in June, a French airline official said Sunday.
The flight continued and landed safely, the source added, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to safety.
the French newspaper The Tribune reported that the pilot and the co-pilot they quarreled shortly after take-off and they held their collars briefly after one punched the other.
Cabin attendants intervened and a crew member remained for the remainder of the flight in the cockpit with the pilots, the report said.
An overwhelming report
The news comes after the French aviation research agency, the BEA, released a report Wednesday that some Air France pilots they don’t respect the rules during security incidents.
The report focused on a fuel leak on an Air France flight from Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, to Paris in December 2020.
The pilots diverted the plane, but did not cut power to the turbine or landed as soon as possible, as required by the regulations. The plane landed without incident in Chad, but the BEA report warned that a fire could have broken out.
He cited three similar cases between 2017 and 2022 in which, he said, pilots acted in their own discretion instead of following established protocols.
