The Justice of Rio de Janeiro ordered this Monday (29) that the German consul, accused of murdering her husband, be included in the list of fugitives from Interpol, a day after the diplomat left for Germany.
“Rio’s 4th husband of the Capital Court of Justice, Belgian Walter Henri Maximilien Biot, on August 5,” she said.
The court also decided to include the consul’s name on Interpol’s list of fugitives, as the accused went to Germany on Sunday.
Hahn was arrested on August 6, but the second-instance court awarded him habeas corpus last week, claiming that the time given for the Ministry of the Public (MP) to file a complaint had expired. The consul was eventually released without surrendering his passport.
Refusing to miss the statutory deadline, the lawmaker accused Hahn of murder on Monday.
According to the investigation, Biot was murdered in the penthouse where the couple lived in the Ipanema neighborhood in Rio’s Southern District.
Forensics concluded that Biot died as a result of a “violent beating.”
The MP alleges that Hahn developed a “sense of ownership” towards her “financially and psychologically subjugated” husband, preventing her from establishing any level of economic independence or developing friendships with others.
Hahn told authorities that her husband hit his head after falling.
Hahn, who has been married to Biot for 20 years, tried to clear the scene before the police arrived and told police officers that her husband drank too much and took sleeping pills, according to media reports.
“The Civil Police are baffled and dismayed by the consul’s return to his country of origin,” delegate Camila Lourenço told the newspaper O Globo.
There was a possibility that a different measure would be taken from the prison, such as the detention of his passport, which would make it more difficult for him to escape,” he said.
