Paris will charter this week an aid plane to the populations affected by the floods in Pakistan, in particular survival kits, the French Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.
“A special flight chartered by the Airbus Foundation will transport 83 high-capacity motorized pumps, 200 family tents and survival, hygiene and protection equipment to Pakistan,” according to a press release from the ministry. “The plane will also transport experts from the Civil Security training, in particular doctors and nurses,” he said.
Nearly 1,200 dead since June
Paris will also transport “by sea an emergency bridge (…) almost 50 meters long, which can be quickly deployed in disaster areas.”
Floods triggered by monsoon rains have submerged a third of Pakistan, killing 1,191 people since June according to a report released Wednesday, devastating large swaths of farmland vital to the economy and destroying or severely damaging more than a million homes.
The Quai d’Orsay “will provide financial support to various French NGOs and the Pakistan Red Crescent, which provide aid to populations affected by the floods,” he specified.
