The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, together with the Ministers of Health of Poland and Ukraine inaugurated this Medevac center, located next to the Rzeszow airport (southeast of Poland, about 80 km from the border with Ukraine).

Patients, civilians or soldiers, can receive care, be vaccinated, benefit from disease detection and psychological support.

Evacuation to other European countries

Norway provides two weekly flights to evacuate them to hospitals in other European countries and to relieve pressure on Ukraine’s neighbors Poland, Moldova and Slovakia.

“The number of injured in Ukraine is increasing every day, and hospitals, already underequipped, are struggling to meet the needs. At the same time, the destruction of health structures deprives chronically ill patients of the treatment they need to survive. We cannot abandon these people,” said Janez Lenarcic, quoted in the EU executive’s statement.

“The medical evacuation center will play a vital role in the rapid transfer of patients to hospitals in Europe,” he stressed.

Since the EU established its evacuation program on March 11, two weeks after the start of the Russian invasion, 1,143 Ukrainian patients have been transferred to 18 European countries, including Germany, France, Italy or Denmark again.
