Portugal ratifies agreement that facilitates entry of Brazilians into the country

Getting permission to enter Portugal will be easier for Brazilians. The Portuguese Cabinet of Ministers approved an agreement Thursday (1st) that makes the requirement for entry, stay and departure procedures and documents for Brazilians and those from other Portuguese-speaking countries more flexible.

According to a statement from the Portuguese institution, “the approved amendments promote mobility and freedom of movement within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries”. Other members of this network are Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Principe, and Timor-Leste.

According to the new rules, you no longer have to come in person to apply for a visa; presenting travel insurance or proof of means of subsistence and a return ticket to the country of origin.

Brazilian citizens do not need a visa for tourism, business, journalism and cultural missions as long as they have a 90-day period to enter Portugal. This period may be extended in Portugal by authorization from the Foreigners and Borders Service, and the extension may not exceed 90 days. In any other case, a visa is required for Brazilian citizens.

According to the rules in force until now, even in visa exemption cases, there were some requirements such as presenting a passport valid for at least 3 months longer than the planned stay, airfare (round trip). travel), accommodation, certificate of employment or professional activity in Brazil (statement issued by a public or private employer) and financial resources to finance the stay, equivalent to 75 euros for each entry into the national territory and also 40 euros per day to stay.

The flexibility of rules for Portuguese-speaking countries is a response to the growing need for labor in Portugal and an attempt to stimulate the national economy. The European country has introduced a number of flexibility in its immigration rules. In July, the amendments to the Foreigners Law (Law No. 23/2007) also made it easier to enter and stay in the country. From there, issuing short-term, temporary stay or residence visas to citizens of Portuguese-speaking countries no longer need to be analyzed by the Aliens and Borders Service (SEF).

In addition, a new visa has been created specifically for those who want to look for a job in Portugal. It lasts 120 days and can be extended for another 60 days. Anyone who has an employment contract is given the right to apply for a residence permit in the country.

Temporary stay and residence visas can also be issued to digital nomads, who are professionals working remotely.

student visa

For the issuance of a visa to higher education students, once the student has been approved at an educational institution, they no longer need to go through SEF approval. Residence permit given to higher education students is valid for two years and can be renewed for the same period.

Visas for family members

Persons accompanying family members who already hold a temporary residence or residence visa will also be allowed to enter Portugal. Tax, social security and national health service identification numbers will be automatically assigned when a residence visa is issued for family grouping and reunification.

Permanent residence permits are granted to family members valid for two years and renewable for periods of three years.
