The FBI discovered during its house search that former President Donald Trump has a document in Florida describing the military defenses of a foreign power, including its nuclear capabilitiesas well as covert US operations, as revealed Wednesday Washington Post.
The discovery was made during the search of the residence and private club of the former Republican president of Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, in the center of the Atlantic coast of Florida, last August.
As reported by the American newspaper, this discovery confirms the concerns that exist in the US intelligence services regarding the classified material that would have been hidden in the Trump property.
Detail of some documents seized US top secret operations so protected that many senior national security officials are not even aware of it, the Washington Post reported.
Only the president, some members of his cabinet or an official close to this body could authorize other government officials to access the details of these secret programs.
Documents on such highly secret operations require special permissions to access them. Some can even only be opened by a single person and are kept under lock and key, almost always in a secure information facility with a designated control officer to closely monitor their location.
However, those documents were kept in Mar-a-Lago “in uncertain security more than 18 months” after Trump left the White House.
After months of trying, according to the acts of the government court, the FBI recovered more than 300 confidential documents from Mar-a-Lago this year: 184 in a set of 15 boxes sent to the National Archives and Records Administration in January, another 38 delivered by a Trump lawyer to investigators in June, and more than 100 additional documents uncovered during an approved search by a court on August 8th.
It was in this latest batch of government secrets recovered, people familiar with the matter said, that information on the preparation for the nuclear defense of a foreign government.
The sources did not identify the country in question, did not say where the document was found in Mar-a-Lago, nor did they provide further details on one of the most sensitive national security investigations ever conducted by the Justice Department.
Donald Trump’s answer
After the information was released, Trump compared it on social media to a series of previous government investigations into his tenure.
“The nuclear weapons issue is a hoax, just like Russia. It was a hoax, the two impeachments were a hoax, the Mueller investigation was a hoax and so much more. The same squalid people involved, “he wrote, later suggesting that FBI agents may have left evidence against him to frame him.
The US government had repeatedly asked Trump to turn them over if he took confidential documents from the White House, but the former president’s entourage has always responded evasively.
