Elizabeth II died this afternoon (local time) in Balmoral, Scotland, aged 96. The royal family were summoned hours ago to be next to the queen, who is the longest-serving queen in Britain’s history.

The beginning of the text reads, “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of greatest sorrow for me and my entire family.”
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a famous monarch and a much loved mother. I know her loss will be felt across the country, kingdoms and Commonwealth as well as across the world,” the statement said.

When the website of the Royal Family was accessed after the death was announced, it was possible to read a statement stating that the website would not be available until a change was made.
The website, with a black background, had the message “Queen Elizabeth II 1926 – 2022” at the top and a photo of the Queen taken when she was young.
