Off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, two sailors nearly crashed their small boat for an unusual reason: A sea lion trying to escape from the orcas jumped into the boat and nearly capsized.
Ernest and Viesia Godek said they turned off the engine when they spotted a trio of orcas near their boat while fishing in the Pedder Bay area off Vancouver Island.
The couple heard a roar at the bottom of the boat, then a sea lion appeared next to their boat.
The mammal jumped into the boat while trying to escape from the orcas.
“It capsized the boat to the point where we needed to hold it, and the water started getting into the boat. I was just hoping we weren’t completely capsized,” Ernest Godek told the Colonist Times.
The boat straightened and the sea lion dived back into the water.
Photos and videos of the match were taken by passengers on an orca observation boat close to the scene.
