Queen Elizabeth had a life well lived; A fateful promise was fulfilled, and he mourned deeply for his death. I renew this promise of lifelong service with you all today.

In addition to the personal grief my entire family feels, we share a deep sense of gratitude with many of you in the UK, in all the countries where the Queen is Head of State, in the Commonwealth and around the world. For more than 70 years, my mother served the people of many nations as queen.

In 1947, on his 21st birthday, he promised to dedicate his life, whether short or long, to the service of his people, to the Commonwealth of Nations in Cape Town.

It was more than a promise: it was a deep personal commitment that defined his entire life. He sacrificed for the mission.

His devotion and devotion as a sovereign never wavered, even in times of change and advancement, in times of joy and celebration, and in times of sadness and loss.

In our life of service, we have seen our commitment to tradition with this fearless embrace of progress that has made us great as nations. The love, admiration and respect he inspired became the hallmarks of his reign.

And as every member of my family can attest, he combined these qualities with warmth, humor and an unmistakable ability to always see the best in people.

I honor my mother’s memory and honor her life of service. I know his death has brought great sadness to many of you, and I share this feeling of loss with all of you immeasurably.

When the Queen ascended the throne, Great Britain and the world were still facing the hardships and consequences of the Second World War and still lived by the traditions of ancient times.

In the last 70 years we have seen our society become one of many cultures and many faiths.

State institutions have also changed. But through all the changes and challenges, our nation and the larger family of kingdoms whose talents, traditions, and achievements I am proud of, have prospered and prospered. Our values have remained and should remain constant.

Like the role and duties of the monarchy, the monarch’s special relationship and responsibility with the Church of England – the Church where my own faith is so deeply rooted.

With this belief and the values it inspires, I was raised to have a sense of duty to others and to hold with the greatest respect the precious traditions, freedoms and responsibilities of our unique history and parliamentary system of government.

I now solemnly pledge to uphold the constitutional principles at the heart of our nation for the rest of my time, as the Queen herself has done with such unwavering devotion.

And wherever you live in the UK or in kingdoms and lands around the world, and whatever your background or creed, I will try to serve you as I have throughout my life, with loyalty, respect and love.

My life will certainly change as I take on my new responsibilities.

It will no longer be possible for me to devote so much of my time and energy to charities and issues that I care about so much. But I know that this important work will continue in the hands of others.

This is also a time of change for my family. I count on the loving help of my beloved wife Camilla.

In recognition of her devoted public service since our marriage 17 years ago, she has become my queen consort.

I know that his new role will bring unwavering commitment to a task I trust so much.

As my heir, William, you now assume Scottish titles that mean so much to me.

He has succeeded me as the Duke of Cornwall and assumes the responsibilities of the Dukedom of Cornwall, which I have held for over fifty years.

Today I am proud to raise him, Tywysog Cymru, Prince of Wales, the country whose title I have been privileged to carry for much of my life and my mission.

With Katherine by her side, our new Prince and Princess of Wales, I know, will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the fringes to the center where vital help can be given.

I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives abroad.

In a little over a week we will come together as a nation, Commonwealth and even a global community to rest my dear mother.

In our sorrow, let us draw strength from the light of his example and remember.

On behalf of my entire family, I can only offer my most sincere thanks for your condolences and support.

They mean more to me than I can express.

And as we embark on her last great journey to join my beloved mother, my beloved late father, I just want to say: thank you.

Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and the family of nations that you have served diligently all these years.

Let the flights of angels rest you.
