Former US President Donald Trump reportedly refused to leave the White House after his 2020 election defeat. CNN International had access, Trump said he was the winner and would therefore stay in place.
“I’m not just going,” Trump told an aide, according to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s book, due to be released in October.
“We will never part,” the former president said to another official, and even “How do you leave after you win the election?” She asked.
Trump, who lost his 2020 re-election to Joe Biden, refused to accept the result and repeated that he had been “robbed” several times. The NY Times reporter also wrote in the book that Trump initially seemed to understand that he had lost the election. This was because he would consult counselors to find out what went wrong and then say “We did our best” and “I thought we did it”.
