MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and members of a Russian delegation have been granted visas to attend the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.
For weeks, Russia has criticized the United States for failing to issue visas to members of the Russian delegation to attend the 77th session of the House.
“Today, a visa was granted to Lavrov and some of his accompanying persons,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, according to the Interfax news agency.
Moscow accused the United States of trying to block Russia’s full participation in the General Assembly by delaying visas for Russians to attend. High-level forum sessions will begin next week.
The Kremlin said on Tuesday that the United States “violated its obligations” by not issuing visas to the full Russian delegation and said it was taking steps to hold both the UN and the United States accountable for the situation.
