Xi also said at the meeting that member states should abandon the “politics of blocks” and support the international system “where the UN is at the centre”.

At the same time, Putin stressed that “the growing role of new power centers is becoming more and more evident”. He emphasized that, unlike Western countries, cooperation between SCO countries is based on generosity.

“We are open to cooperation with the whole world,” said the Russian President.

Our policy is not selfish. We hope others will stop talking politics on the same principles and resorting to the tools of protectionism, illegal sanctions and economic selfishness.”

Moscow is trying to strengthen its ties with Asia to counter Western sanctions imposed in retaliation for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
