Olympic champion Kelly Holmes appeared on “Loose Women” yesterday and revealed one of the most embarrassing moments of her life: accidentally swallowing the ashes of her mother, Pam Norman, who died of cancer in 2017.
The English program was interested in “how to deal with grief”. That’s when the former British athlete announced that his mother wanted to be cremated when he died and even threatened to come and “haunt” the family if they weren’t taken care of.
“There were four places in the country he wanted to visit, but it was too late. We decided to go to those four places and scatter their ashes,” he said.
The first opportunity paid off. But the other three were more difficult: “It was always windy when we went to the New Forest, the Isle of Wight, and the Cotswalds,” he said. “So we’d get in a long line, we’d play [as cinzas] and I have a room for my mother inside of me!” Kelly said, showing how the ash had flown into her face.
“We’d say ‘one, two, three’ – and frankly we were upset, but ‘choke’, the wind would bring it back to us. We’re trying to get rid of you!'” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience.
Kelly Holmes won gold medals in the 800 m and 1500 m races at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She is also Queen II in March 2005. He was honored by Elizabeth with the Order of the British Empire.
