An Italian priest in the city of Brescia in the Lombardy region sparked controversy after wearing a cycling outfit while riding a bike, celebrating a mass.
This is the priest Fabio Corazzina of the diocese of Brescia, who chose a “dirty place” where the hosts were carried by the wind, and performed the ceremony “on a table without a tablecloth.” A video of that moment was also posted on social media by the religious person himself.
In a note, Bishop of Brescia, Monsignor Pierantonio Tremolada, asked Corazzina to choose “a penitent gesture that expresses awareness of his responsibility and intervenes in some way to rectify what happened.”
“The context, the dressing, the way it treats the sacred types, the freedom in the formulation of prayers, and the Eucharistic prayer itself, some of the jokes are out of place and unfortunate,” he said.
Tremolada also wrote of his surprise that the priest “did not consider the consequences of such an act deliberately announced via social media.”
The Bishop said, “How can you not perceive the bewilderment and pain this will cause in so many people who love the Eucharist and put it at the center of their faith life?” she asked.
Finally, Tremolada stressed that “really it is necessary to make amends and humbly apologize.”
