At least 76 people died as authorities put pressure on demonstrations in Iran that lasted more than a week to protest the death of young Mahsa Amini, the Norwegian-based NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR) reported.
In a statement, the NGO said, “According to the information collected by Iran’s Human Rights, at least 76 people were killed in demonstrations in 14 provinces across the country”, adding that “six women and four children” were among the dead.
The UST said it obtained “videos and death certificates confirming live bullets fired at protesters.”
“We call on the international community to take practical steps, united and determined, to end the killings and torture of protesters,” said Mahmood Amiry Moghaddam, the organization’s director.
According to the NGO, Mazandaran province in the north of the country is the region with the highest number of dead protesters, 25. Three people died in Tehran.
The Oslo-based organization also reported that many families are “forced” to secretly bury their loved ones at night and “pressure not to hold mass funerals”.
“Many families were threatened with legal consequences if their relatives disclosed their deaths,” the NGO report said.
The official box office of the Iranian authorities is 41 dead, including several members of the security forces.
