The UN on Tuesday voiced its concern over the mass arrests in Russia against the military mobilization announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We are deeply concerned about the large number of people who will be detained,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The spokesperson referred to “credible reports (…) that (according to) 2,377 protesters were arrested in various parts of the country”.
Putin announced a partial mobilization to annex four Ukrainian regions, following a series of setbacks by his military on the Ukrainian front and the internationally condemned referendums that were allegedly due to end on Tuesday.
