More than a week ago, at a press conference, Sergio Massa talked about tariffs and consumption caps to access consumption. It was scheduled for this Friday, but it will be for next week.

“This rate update will be the first below the coefficient of wage variation, in installments, and only for the sector with the highest purchasing power “Royon said. And I add: “The social rate will not increase, it will not be updated this year.”

“We are working, this week has been very intense. We want to be clear with people. We are working hard on this. I estimate that during the weekend we will be able to finish our work”, he clarified in this regard. “Next week we will give details on this,” she concluded on the new rate table.

When it was suspended on Thursday, the excuse was that all attention would be focused on the spread of the consumer price index (CPI). Figures that were 7.4% in July, the highest in the last 20 years.

Last week, along with the announcement of new Energy Ministry officials, Economy Minister Sergio Massa announced that tariff segmentation would be added. a cap on consumption. Therefore, to withhold electricity subsidies, in addition to having certain socio-economic characteristics, it could not exceed 400 kWh per month.

So from those 400 kilowatts per month, users will have to pay the fee without subsidies, which means an increase in the cost of the service in the bill. Authorities reported that 9 million have asked for the benefits to be maintained, while 4 million have not signed up.

The removal of subsidies is one of the measures agreed with the IMF last March. In his latest report, the staff asked for a further rate increase and a reduction in expenditure of 7.8% of GDP, including pensions. Massa confirmed that he intends to reach the goal of 2.5% primary deficit.

The government argues that energy imports to meet demand are the main cause of the central bank’s loss of reserves. “Those who consume less or have less income pay less; those who consume more or have more income pay more,” Massa said last week.

According to Massa, “The segmentation and grant cap will have a federal criterion with understanding of the climate”and therefore, he specified, the entry into force will be by sector and area.
