How many tickets have been sold? There were 33,178,833 from January 1 to this Tuesday, December 27, which marked an upturn compared to 2021, when 13,322,212 tickets had been sold. Sure, there was the pandemic, the rooms were slow to open. As a percentage, the number of attendances increased by 250%.

In 2020, the year the pandemic hit the hardest, 8,646,176 went to the cinema. And we already know that the older age group has stopped going to theaters, and many young people and adults have remained glued to their devices in the face of the enormous offer of streaming.

And this is how, compared to the pre-pandemic era, the numbers of this 2022 are not so favorable, even if they weren’t that bad either. In 2019 there were 46,871,081 spectators who enjoyed the cinema. As a percentage, they were 29% down this year.

As often happens, there are several animated productions among the most viewed, with Minions: a villain is born to the head. Have seen the prequel of My favorite villain 4,566,438 spectators, which is not only a very high figure and which represents 13.76% of the total tickets sold during the year. It ranks as the third most watched in history in Argentina, behind two other cartoons, toy story 4 (since 2019: 6,632,507) e minions (since 2015: 4,933,196 spectators). The fourth is also a digital animation, Ice Age 4 (2012), which drew 4,495,422 admissions.

The other animated productions presumably aimed at children’s audiences that entered the Top 20 according to the data managed by the company Ultracine, were light yearfrom Disney/Pixar (1,592,303), which was fifth, sound 2which combined animation and flesh-and-blood actors (1,282,889) and was seventh, because he was sixth Spider-Man: There’s no way back homewhich while on the bill in 2022 (premiered in 2021) was seen by 1,567,623 people.

Continuing with the animated, he placed tenth Sing 2, come and sing again (862.464), 15th DC League of Super Beasts (719.311) and 16 Dragon Ball Super: Superhero (619.071).

There were 602 titles that spent at least a week on the bill in a cinema in Argentina.

And let’s remember it already from 2020 There is an Argentine province that doesn’t have a cinema: Formosa.

The second film that brought more audiences to theaters was Jurassic World: Dominationwho spent the same number of weeks billed as that of minions (25) and brought 2,414,573 spectators to theaters.

Closes the podium of the three most viewed Thor: Love and thunder, with its 2,083,032 tickets, in just 14 weeks on the bill. The Marvel movie narrowly beat out another Marvel movie: Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madnesswho paid to see 100,000 fewer spectators: 1,977,554.

In case of Avatar: The Path of Water, by James Cameron, deserves a separate paragraph. While December has historically never been a strong month in terms of audience attendance, the sequel to the top-grossing film (which isn’t necessarily the most-watched) sold 835,849 tickets in its first 13 days on the bill. It represents 62% of the December total.

A year ago, the mirage was given by the tank from Sony and Marvel Spider-Man: There’s no way back home, which on the same date and also in the first two weeks on the bill had gathered 2,309,388 spectators. Yes, almost double of Avatar: The way the water. But let’s remember it in this Spiderman the three Peter Parkers appeared, and the massive return of audiences to theaters was slow in coming.

How did Argentine cinema fare?

As for Argentine cinema, the public did not accompany as expected. Tickets sold are 2,636,382 (7.94%), but of the 300 national films on the bill, two make up just over a third of the total (36.10%).

they were Argentina, 1985by Santiago Mitre, with Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani (1,067,966, and it should be remembered that international channels did not want to release it, because it would soon be uploaded in streaming on Amazon Prime Video), and 30 nights with my exAdrián Suar’s directorial debut, watched by 783,993 people.

Only two other national films have surpassed the barrier of 100,000 admissions: the animated co-production with Spain The Turuleca hen (130.042) e Have more respect from your motherwith Diego Peretti and Florencia Peña (114,899).

8 other productions had more than 10,000 admissions, and the rest – the other 288 – less than 10,000.

The prospects for next year are better than this one which is about to end. We’ll see in a year.
