Several cities in Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, were hit by Russian missiles on Thursday morning (29), the country’s Air Force said.
The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement on social media, “December 29. Large-scale missile attack (…) The enemy is attacking Ukraine from various directions with cruise missiles from aircraft and ships.”
According to Presidential adviser Mikhailo Podolyak, more than 120 missiles were fired.
After a series of military failures and territorial losses in the past six months, Moscow stepped up its air strike with drones and missiles to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
On Thursday morning, explosions were reported in several cities, including the capital, Kyiv, where Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned of possible power outages and urged residents to conserve water.
According to the mayor, at least three people were injured in the explosions in Kiev.
Dropped missile fragments hit two houses in eastern Kiev. An “industrial company” and a nursery were hit southwest of the city, according to the capital’s military command.
Mayor Andrii Sadovyi said that explosions in western Lviv left 90% of the city without electricity.
Lviv Regional Governor Maksim Kozytski said that air defense was deployed and urged residents to stay in bunkers.
Mayor Igor Terekhov said the explosions also hit Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv.
